R.D. CONGO

The last country in the world for the human development index of the United Nations. 7 out of 10 youths are illiterate, with the most dramatic rates of infant and maternal mortality: 1 child out of 5 doesn’t reach 5 years old, 1 mother out of 200 dies in childbirth.

Absence of infrastructures, lack of electrification, and a territory as large as half of Europe make the country a hostile and complex place.

The Salvatorians have been present since 1955 and have carried out projects of rural development of great value in these years: schools, agricultural cooperatives, dispensaries, health centres and pastoral training.

In 2011 a project for the electrification of the territory of Kapanga financed by the European Commission in cooperation with SOFIA was begun
