Albania is a former communist country in South-eastern Europe. After World War II, Albania was under communist rule until 1990. Many Albanians left the country in search of work; remittances thus is a significant cause for economic growth, mostly from those residing in Greece and Italy.
Albania has developed significantly from once being the poorest nation in Europe. The economy has grown impressively in the past few years. However, poverty in Albania has remained significantly high. Albania has a population of 3.2 million.
