Poverty in Guatemala is higher than in other Central American countries with an estimated 64% living in poverty. 81% of the poor live predominantly in rural regions. The country is a major corridor for the smuggling of drugs. It has a total population of 15 million and Spanish is the language spoken by most of the population.
